Clarion Co., Ltd. (President & COO: Atsushi Kawabata; Clarion) will introduce the products and technology of Clarion Group at the 17th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Shanghai Motor Show) to be held from April 21 to April 28 at the comprehensive exhibition center facilities of the National Convention and Exhibition Center in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
The products and technology presented at the Hitachi Group booth (Booth 5BF-001) include a display of the Smart Cockpit Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology that provides driving information to the driver using audio and vibrations, enabling safer and more comfortable autonomous driving. Additionally, there are car navigation systems developed for China and 360° sensing technology aimed at achieving an era of autonomous driving, which have been jointly developed with Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. (President & CEO: Hideaki Seki; Hitachi Automotive Systems).
The Hitachi Group booth will present Hitachi Automotive Systems (China) Ltd., the regional management company of Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. in the People’s Republic of China (China), (President: Keiichi Gamou). The company will introduce a wide range of mobility technologies, products, and systems of the Hitachi Group that contribute to next-generation vehicles, such as autonomous driving and electric power based on the theme of “Moving Forward! to a future connecting people, vehicles and society.”

Outline of Clarion Group’s products and technology

Integrated Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) System Corner
Calls attention to Clarion’s varied technology for an autonomous driving society via a cabin mock-up of the Smart Cockpit. Clarion is working on achieving safer and more comfortable autonomous driving with integrated HMI technology that reliably provides information to the driver using a display, audio and vibration. The exhibit will introduce multiple demonstrations including an instance where driver monitoring, which uses internal sensors and cameras in the driver’s seat, detects distraction and irregularity in the driver’s breathing, and finds a solution such as making an emergency call automatically as necessary.
Autonomous Driving System Corner
Introduces sensing technology that employs camera systems and communications to realize autonomous driving, such as megapixel digital cameras, cameras for electronic mirrors, SurroundEye ECU and TCU.
Navigation for China Corner (Reference exhibit)
Showcases samples of three types of navigation being developed as navigation systems for China.
1. Navigation for WeLink, a smartphone linking service for China
Popular SNS applications can be used in-vehicle in China.
2. Navigation for internal drive recorder functions
Drive recorder functions, which are increasing in demand in China, can be utilized by only adding a camera. Moreover, they enable the transfer of recorded images to smartphones, and support posting to SNS and such.
3. Navigation for internal driver monitoring
Detects the driver dozing and looking aside, and displays a warning on the screen and via audio. Enables space saving by performing image processing within the navigation unit.

Autonomous Driving System Corner
Introduces electric power technology such as motors that will support the evolution of electric vehicles, 360° sensing technology utilizing cameras and radars to achieve autonomous driving, and integrated vehicle control systems such as safety control technology. Accompanied by video, visitors can experience these technologies scaled to the size of an actual vehicle.
Fuel Efficiency Improvement Engine System Corner
Introduces high-efficiency engine management systems including energy and heat management that contribute to improvements in fuel efficiency.
Integrated Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) System Corner
Introduces Clarion’s “Smart Cockpit” HMI that provides driving information to the driver using audio and vibrations and Hitachi Maxell’s heads-up display (HUD) for displaying speed, etc. on the windshield using freeform surface optical technology.
These technologies enable safer and more comfortable autonomous driving.
Navigation for China Corner
Introduces three types of car navigation systems provided by Clarion in China: (1) smartphone link, (2) internal drive recorders, and (3) internal drive monitoring.
Motion Ride Theater
This six-axis driving simulator for 10 passengers is synchronized with video projected on a large screen. Riders can enjoy an exciting simulated Indy Car race while experiencing Hitachi Automotive Systems’ drive control system technology.
