Precaution Icons

Precautions are divided into two types and identified by the icons described below, depending on the severity of the risk of personal injury or property damage when the unit is used incorrectly. Always be sure to carefully read and understand each precaution before moving on to the rest of the manual.

This icon indicates the risk of death or serious personal injury may result if precautions are ignored.
This icon indicates the risk of serious personal injury or material damage may result if precautions are ignored.

Note the following precautions about the built-in lithium ion battery, which acts as the backup battery for the Operating System of this device when it is in its suspend mode. Mishandling of the battery creates the risk of fluid leakage, overheating, explosion, and combustion, creating the risk of fire and personal injury.

  • Never leave this unit on the dashboard of a car or anywhere else it may be exposed to direct sunlight, and never leave it where it may be subject to high temperature or humidity, such as inside a vehicle in the sun. If the device is not used for a long time, the Operating System may take longer than usual to start up.
  • Always start the vehicle's engine before using the car adapter. Use of the car adapter with the engine stopped may run down the vehicle's battery.
  • This unit is designed for use in a 12V DC negative ground vehicle only. Use only the specified car adapter that comes with the unit.
  • Always follow traffic rules and regulations when driving.
  • This model has an internal battery for memory back up. If a battery leaks, do not touch the liquid with your bare hands.
  • Only use the car adapter that comes with the unit. Use of any other type of AC or car adapter may run the risk of batteries overheating, catching fire, or exploding.
  • Never continue to use the unit after it malfunctions or a problem occurs.
  • Never touch the car adapter when your hands are wet and never allow the car charger adapter plug to get wet.
  • Do not share the power supply with other devices.
  • Keep microSD cards out of the reach of small children.
  • Never try to operate the unit while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Do not look at images produced by the unit while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Do not use the unit with the volume set too high.
  • Be sure to install the standard cradle correctly.
  • Never install the unit in a location where it will interfere with operation of the motor vehicle, the vision of the driver, or where it may endanger passengers.
  • Never install the unit where it may interfere with the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags.
  • Make sure the car adapter plug is plugged in as far as it will go.

  • Never try to disassemble, repair, or modify the unit, and never cut the cover of the cord in an attempt to draw power for another device. Doing so creates the risk of fire, electric shock, and accident.
  • This unit is not water resistant or dust resistant. Water and dust create the risk of fire and smoke, combustion, electric shock, and malfunction.
  • Run the cords so they are out of the way of driver/passenger movements.
  • Do not subject this unit to strong impacts. Dropping, striking or otherwise subjecting the unit to strong impact can deform or damage it internally, creating the risk of accident or fire.
  • Unplug the power plug before leaving the vehicle. Leaving it plugged in can create the risk of fire.
  • Do not install the unit in a location that is subject to strong vibration or where it will be unstable.
  • Install the unit where it is out of the reach of small children.
