Clarion Awarded with Two 2014 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards
All New NX404 Navigation and Multimedia Model and Marine Market CMS5 Model Beat Competitors to Secure Two of the Top Twenty Nine Awards
Cypress, California, (January 7, 2014) – Clarion Corporation of America announced today that two of its new products, the NX404 in-dash navigation/ multimedia source unit and the new marine market CMS5 all-in-one digital media receiver, have received the coveted CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards for 2014.
Clarion’s feature-rich but value-oriented NX404 in-dash navigation multimedia unit offers full smartphone connectivity and won the CES Innovations award in the In-Vehicle Accessories/ Control/ Navigation product category. The NX404 benefits from a highly animated graphical user interface that is intuitive by design and easy to use courtesy of its vibrant 6.2 inch WVGA touch panel display. It is compatible with multiple audio and video formats and offers smartphone connectivity.
Clarion’s marine specific CMS5 received the CES Innovations award in the In-Vehicle Audio/ Video category. CMS5 is an all-in-one digital media receiver with an optically bonded 4.3 inch color LCD and features a global AM/ FM/ weather band tuner with RDS, and Bluetooth HFP and A2DP with aptX and AVRCP 1.4 compatibility in a water tight black box construction. The system offers a wide variety of audio compatibility including satellite radio and Pandora® internet radio control via an iPhone USB connection or, on an Android smartphone, through Bluetooth. The CMS5 offers seamless integration of all types of digital audio content and includes several other demanded features such as dual audio/video RCA inputs, an RCA output and a dedicated RCA input for a rear view camera.

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow. Products entered in this highly regarded program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media. Since 1976, the program has honored outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products. This year, there were 29 product categories.
The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:
• Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
• Aesthetic and design qualities, using photos provided
• The product’s intended use/function and user value
• Why the product deserves the Innovations award, including specifics regarding its unique/novel features and features that consumers would find attractive
• How the design and innovation of this product directly compare to other products in the market place
Clarion’s NX404 & CMS5 will be displayed in The Venetian at the 2014 International CES, which runs January 7-10, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled: The Official Media Event of the International CES from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, in South Seas Ballroom C at Mandalay Bay.
Innovations 2014 Design and Engineering honoree products are also featured on CESweb.org/Innovations, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, designer, description, photo and URL.
Clarion’s NX404’s will be available early in the Q1 of 2014. CMS5 is expected to ship in Q2 of 2014.
